Invisible dog fence repair is not all that difficult with the right tools. Precision Pet Fence uses the DNFA RF wire locator to find wire breaks in the underground dog fence. The DNFA RF wire locator has two parts the Transmitter and the Receiver. The transmitter sends a RF radio signal thru the underground wire and the receiver will pick up that tone.

When looking for a underground dog fence wire break simply follow the tone in the receiver until it gradually fades to no tone at this point you are very close to the break. Next dig up the underground wire in that spot and give it a tug pull out the slack and stretch it out to find the other end. See underground dog fence wire break repair for step by step instructions on how to repair a break in a underground dog fence or pet containment system.

There is more involved in the repair of a invisible dog fence than just wire breaks. One of the main things that can happen is lightning damage or a power surge. The bad news is you may have electronic damage to you dog fence and not know about it. While most new systems will alert you the containment system is not working most of the older ones won’t. If you’re pet containment system is more than four or five years old the chances are it will not alert you to the problem. The problem with the older containment systems is they may in fact have a warning to alert you that there is electronic damage but this is almost always the first part to get damaged when hit in a electric storm.

Most new containment systems have a external lightning and surge protection device that plugs directly into the power outlet if you do not have one I would strongly suggest getting one. The easy way to test for electronic damage in your underground dog fence is to pull the twisted wires (the wire coming in from outside) out of the dog fence transmitter. If the transmitters warning tone does not sound or the warning light does not flash the chances are you have storm damage. See underground dog fence troubleshooting for more info.
